Description
Psoriasis is a chronic (long-lasting) skin
disease that affects millions of people in the United States. Psoriasis causes
scaling (flaky, dry patches) and inflammation (red, raised areas) of the skin.
People with psoriasis usually have patches (areas) of thick, red skin covered
with silvery scales. These patches can sometimes become itchy or feel sore.
Psoriasis is most often found on the elbows, palms of the hands, knees or other
parts of the legs, the bottoms of the feet, lower back, scalp, and face.
Psoriasis may also be seen anywhere else on the body. In plaque psoriasis, a
person develops several to many pink or red rough patches scattered throughout
the skin. Often times each spot is the size of a quarter or may be much larger.
