Lichen Planus

Description
Lichen planus is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease, which can cause significant pain, itching and scarring. Lichen planus can also affect mucosal surfaces, particularly the mouth and vulvovaginal areas. These areas can become erosive and resistant to existing therapies. Current standard of care includes topical and systemic steroids to control symptoms, but these treatments can have dose-related side effects when used over a long time. The causes of lichen planus are currently unknown, and there is currently no cure for the disease.
